Temperatures plunged across the Isle of Wight last night as forecasters revealed conditions dipped below minus 4c in places.
Most woke to a cold start this morning (Wednesday) with temperatures hovering around 1C (33.8F) on the Island.
The IW Met Service recorded that Godshill (-4.4C) was worst hit by the cold snap, followed closely by Ashey (-4.1C), Alverstone (-3.2C), Newport (-3.1C) and Westridge (-2.6C).
The conditions are in stark contrast to this time last year, when the Island basked in comparatively tropical overnight conditions of around 6C before reaching a daily peak of 18C, with the following days yielding a heatwave which saw weather in access of 20C during the first lockdown.
The IW Met Service says today will see long sunny spells to start but cloud increasing by late morning to give a rather cloudy afternoon with just the outside chance of a shower. Temperatures are likely to stick around 7C to 9C.
Tonight will see another drop, with temperatures between -1C and 1C generally but as low as -3C in a few sheltered rural parts of the Island.
