An urgent investigation needs to be done on the rental housing crisis on the Isle of Wight.

The lack of affordable rental properties is causing misery and distress to local renters.

Our family has been affected.

A couple with two young children under the age of seven are going to be made homeless in three weeks and not because of anything they have done wrong.

They pay their rent, bills and council tax on time and are good tenants.

But they cannot get a rental property because they need housing top up and because so many people applying to rent one property, they are always bottom of the list.

The Isle of Wight Council is doing nothing to assist and are quite happy to see two young children out on the street.

Splitting the family is the only option for them at the moment to have somewhere to sleep at night.

Where is the compassion? Where is the governance?

In the 21st century we are still evicting and making families homeless. Isle of Wight Council and landlords should be ashamed of themselves.

We need to stop the housing crisis, take empty homes and utilise then, stop unaffordable rents, and have compassion and a duty to house families and homeless alike.

We are not in Victorian times now.

Where is our humanity?
