FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning about lighting fire in the open after a spate of similar incidents led to callouts in the past couple of months.

Following a call-out this afternoon, Freshwater Fire Station has asked people to "refrain from lighting fires in the countryside" following another callout to deal with a fire in the open today (Tuesday).

The fire took place just off the track halfway between the Causeway and Yarmouth.

This is one of several similar incidents in the past seven days, including a callout to School Green Lane in Freshwater last week.

A spokesperson for the IW Fire and Rescue Service previously said: "Please follow the advice. Stay at home.

"Do not put unnecessary demand on the emergency services during this time of national emergency.

"Parents...do you know where your children are?"
