MULTIPLE emergency services crews headed to Cowes Esplanade this afternoon, to help a kayaker in distress.

A call had come in, saying a kayaker had been waving for help.

Bembridge and Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams went at 1.19pm but once on scene, it was ascertained the kayaker had been picked up by a passing vessel.

Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was paged alongside the coastguard crews but the launch was cancelled due to the kayaker being assisted out of the water.

All teams have now stood down.

Kayakers are reminded of the importance of Marine VHF Radioing while on the water.
