A RYDE man arrested for being drunk and disorderly has been sentenced.

Kevin Lawrence Gallagher, 58, of Newport Street, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (March 30).

He admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place on March 14 of this year.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, showed the court CCTV footage of the incident, which captured a drunken and slurring Gallagher exchanging words with police.

Gallagher, who represented himself, said he had been taking clothes to a charity shop and admitted he had consumed "a couple" of drinks.

Footage showed Gallagher refusing to go home at the behest of several police officers.

When police repeatedly told him to pick his clothes up off the floor, he eventually complied.

Returning to his home across the road, Gallagher re-emerged with two bin bags full of clothes and proceeded to swear at police.

After he threw them toward the road he was arrested.

Upon viewing the CCTV footage, Gallagher, representing himself, conceded he needed to get himself some help.

He was fined £40, and ordered to pay costs of £40 and a £34 surcharge.
