Isle of Wight ferry firm Wightlink has sized up a huge container ship, comparing it to iconic landmark The Needles.

The Ever Given has now re-floated, after six days stuck on the Suez Canal.

The ginormous transporter made world headlines when it became wedged in the critical shipping lane.

It is now free and is moored up nearby.

Now Wightlink's measured it the Ever Given - comparing to the Island's The Needles.

The to-scale image shows how vast the boat is and how it would dwarf the rock formations off the Island's coastline.

Isle of Wight County Press:

This week, salvage teams freed the colossal container ship, ending a crisis that had clogged one of the world’s most vital waterways and halted billions of dollars a day in maritime commerce.

A video emerged of tugboats honking their horns as the bow of the skyscraper-sized Ever Given was wrenched free - and days of excavation by an ant-like digger.

The boat had been lodged across the canal since March 23.

At least 367 vessels, carrying everything from crude oil to cattle, were backed up as they waited to traverse the canal, said PA.

Dozens of others opted to take the alternative route around the Cape of Good Hope - Africa’s southern tip — a 3,100-mile detour costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel and other costs.
