Isle of Wight High Sheriff Caroline Peel took the opportunity for a ride on a 'gentle giant' of a horse while presenting an award to an Island Riding Centre groom.

Angel Passmore has received the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight Award for her outstanding dedication to learning and progression in her career.

While handing over the accolade, Caroline hopped on Donald - a 17.2 hands high Clydesdale, who is partial to mints.

Angel has completed her studies with the HTP Apprenticeship College and the Newport-based equestrian centre and is now a full time groom, responsible caring for and managing the centre's horses and stables.

Louise Buckner, director, said: “We are really keen for our students to develop their skills and have a focus and goal.

"There are not many places on the Island where this amount of equestrian opportunity happens and our passion at Island Riding Centre is to help the (local) youth grow, gain experience and achieve great things."
