An Islander has died in hospital after contracting Covid-19, according to new NHS figures released today (Wednesday).

The death was recorded on March 22, at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

It means 150 people have now died in hospital on the Island and in total, 280 people have died (including deaths in the community), since March 2020.

The rate of new cases is falling, however.

Two new coronavirus cases were added yesterday (Tuesday), which brings the Isle of Wight's rolling average to 16.9 per 100,000 people, in the seven days to March 18.

New cases data is published at 4pm.
