The Covid-19 stay-at-home order means you might not have been allowed to travel to Ryde for a visit recently.

It means you might have missed work to fix a major sewer pipe, which caused a sinkhole to open up in January.

In a huge engineering scheme, the pipe that ran under Ryde seafront has now been rerouted - via an elaborate labyrinth of large pipes above the ground.

The complex temporary fix runs from the canoe lake to near Appley Tower.

There are fears the work could last until October, after utility firm Southern water requested worst case scenario road closures.

In a statement earlier this month, it said it would complete the work as soon as it can.

When you see the scale of the operation, it is easy to understand why the repair might take so long.
