THERE has been a further increase in the number of confirmed Isle of Wight Covid cases, according to the latest data.

Public Health England figures released today (Sunday) reveal two new cases have been added to the Isle of Wight's total.

Since the start of the pandemic, 6,702 cases have been recorded on the Isle of Wight ­— fewer than five per cent of the population.

Yesterday, one new case was confirmed, and another two the day before.

The Isle of Wight's rolling average rate has also risen marginally today.

Today, in the seven days up to March 16, there were 18.3 cases on the Isle of Wight, per 100,000 people — up from 16.9 recorded yesterday.

The UK rate stands at 58.1 cases per 100,000 people.

No new Covid deaths were recorded on the Isle of Wight today.

In all, 278 people have died on the Isle of Wight, having tested positive for the disease.

The figure comprises 149 died in hospital, 116 in care homes, nine at home, one at a hospice, two 'elsewhere' and one other, not yet determined.
