THREE towns across the Isle of Wight have been named as some of the most affordable areas to buy property in the UK.
Newport, East Cowes and Ryde ranked in the top five cheapest places to buy property in the South East rating third, fourth and fifth retrospectively after Dover and Gosport.
The research complied by Zoopla revealed the average home in Newport costs £215,328, with the average couple's gross annual earnings at £53,482, giving an average house price-to-earnings ratio of 4.03.
Annually couples in Newport will repay £7,262 on mortgage repayments, around 18 per cent of the overall household income.
Whilst couples in East Cowes on average earn the same as those in Newport, house prices are ever so slightly higher, with the average property in the area setting buyers back £215,510.
Property owners in the area have an average house price-to-earnings ratio of 4.03 with annual mortgage repayments of £7,268, averaging 18 percent of total household income.
Ryde also placed on the list as one of the most affordable areas in the South East and the third most affordable town on the Island.
Property owners in Ryde have a combined gross household earning of £53,482 with house prices in the area averaging around £220,737.
The price-to-earnings ratio here is slightly higher than in East Cowes and Newport at 4.13 with annual mortgage repayments of £7,444 averaging around 19 per cent of total household income.
