Three new cases of coronavirus have been added to the Isle of Wight's total today (Wednesday), bringing to 6,694, the number of Covid-19 positives on the Island since the start of the pandemic.

The Isle of Wight's rolling average rate has been rising in recent days.

In the seven days to March 12, there were 21.2 cases on the Isle of Wight, per 100,000 people.

Although that is higher that recent days, the rate remains below average.

A rise had been expected as lateral flow tests become more common, used by people who are asymptomatic (not showing any signs of coronavirus).

Among those being tested are returning secondary school children.

Four schools have announced cases in the last week, leading to groups of students and staff having to isolate.

There has also been a new Covid-19 linked death in St Mary's Hospital, according to today's data.
