Work to widen St George's Way means Island motorists were met with diversions and cones on their way into Newport this morning (Monday).

If you are travelling into Newport from the direction of the Asda roundabout, you can expect a similar picture for the next six months.
The second phase of the Isle of Wight Council's plan to improve Newport's road network is underway.

What to expect
A road closure is now in place and there is a new home for the South Street taxi rank - round the corner at Church Litten.
Part of the main road into Newport (between Pan and Cineworld, to Coppins Bridge) is now restricted to outbound traffic only.
Cars coming into Newport must follows the diversion signs.
Be warned! A potential cut-through, via Medina Avenue, has been closed off, at the junction with St George's Approach.
