In a letter to her grandson Harry (but made public) the Queen has suggested that only full-time royals can live a life of public service.

At a time when nurses and doctors are working themselves into an early grave (it was reported recently that nurses in intensive care units who normally tended one patient were having to tend four critically ill patients), this timing was singularly — what's the modern word? — oh yes, inappropriate.

I think Harry was quite restrained in pointing out that public service is not a royal prerogative.
