Animal Farm has been voted the nation’s favourite school book. 

The Orwell classic novella narrowly beat A Christmas Carol and Of Mice and Men. 

The study was conducted by Oxford Home Schooling.

It asked 2,000 UK adults which books they most enjoyed reading when they were at school.

Animal Farm was selected by a quarter of respondents. 

JB Priestley’s An Inspector Calls among the most popular and features on the Year 10 syllabus.

Bronte books rated highly by women, but low down the rankings for men.
