People in Brighton and Southampton are looking south, towards the Isle of Wight, for their summer break, according to Cofton Holidays.

The Island sits at fifth place on its list of most searched locations, according to the Devon-based holiday firm.

Holiday searches have shot up, in light of the government's roadmap out of Covid-19 lockdown.

Cornwall, Jersey, Devon, Newmarket and a remote Scottish Highlands town are also among the top 10 searched-for destinations.

The news comes as holiday cottage site Vrbo also reported a surge in searches featuring the Isle of Wight.

Cofton Holidays says it looked at recent online searches for over 400 top UK holiday destinations before publishing this list, which features the Isle of Wight.

It says some southerners are searching the Island, while some northerners are considering Jersey.

Isle of Wight County Press:

The Prime Minister warned that dates for each different stage of the plan would be on conditions being met, around Covid-19.

If it goes to plan, overnight visits (in some circumstances) could be back on the cards in England from April 2.

No city destinations made the top ten.
