A TEENAGER from the Isle of Wight has won a place at the prestigious Gresham's School in Holt, Norfolk.

Gabby Hippolite beat fierce competition to gain a scholarship at the school established in 1555.

It is offered to Year 11s through the Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), which runs Cowes Enterprise College, where Gabby is a pupil.

Gabby said: “I still can’t believe I was awarded the scholarship, it’s such an incredible opportunity and I’m so thankful to OAT and Gresham’s for it.

"It took a lot of hard work and determination but it was all worth it. I am so excited to complete my A-levels there.

"I’m hoping the support offered at Gresham’s will help with my aspirations to attend Oxbridge and become an astrophysicist.”

Gabby also won a grant of £125, which she donated to Gurnard Scouts to help towards new cooking stoves.

Gabby paid tribute to Cowes Enterprise teachers Miss Lawrence and Mr Green, whose support and motivation, she said, made the scholarship possible.
