A YOUNG boy was injured by a cut-throat razor when he tried to protect his mother from an attack by a pensioner, an Isle of Wight court heard.

Stephen Douglas White faces a possible jail term after he admitted inflicting actual bodily harm against a six-year-old boy, assaulting a woman by beating, causing criminal damage and possessing a weapon, namely a Taser, on January 24.

As part of the assault on the woman, White held the razor to the woman's throat, which he vehemently denies. He initially pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Police and an ambulance were called to an address in Sandown following a report of violence.

White, 67, of George Street, Sandown, had pushed the woman and had waved the razor around — at one point holding it up to her throat, said Liz Miller, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

A boy suffered a cut finger by grabbing the razor as he tried to intervene.

During the incident, White smashed the woman's mobile phone and made threats to kill her, before he fled.

When police visited White's home, they found a Taser weapon and arrested him, the bench was told.

Miss Miller said White's ABH charge was on a reckless basis and White did not accept he held the razor to the woman's throat when threats to kill her were made.

For White, James Cameron said his client was apologetic about what happened and was an alcoholic who needed to get help.

Magistrates ordered a report, to consider imprisonment, and remanded White in custody to reappear for sentencing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on March 12.
