RESIDENTIAL properties in Newport have been burgled — and police are urging people to lock their doors at night and report any walk-in burglaries.

At least two dwellings were burgled recently — on February 19 and 22 — when the offender walked into the homes via unlocked doors.

Items stolen include a wallet, PlayStation and iPad.

Police are asking for information, and also asking residents in nearby roads for any CCTV or doorbell footage that might help.

The police said: "We are appealing for information on two dwelling burglaries that have happened around Newport town centre.

"The offender in these incidents has entered residential properties through an unlocked door during the night and stolen items.

"Have you come across a discarded wallet? Has anyone offered you a PlayStation or an iPad?

"Do you believe you know someone who has bought these items?

"We have also recovered some foreign currency we believe has been stolen and not yet reported.

"If you live in the vicinity of the town centre and think you might have been the victim of a walk in burglary in recent days but have not called us, we urge you to do so.

"If you live in the vicinity of Trafalgar Road, Castle Street, Melbourne Street, Clifford Street, The Mall, Drill Hall Road, Collingwood Road, East View, West View, New Street, West Street and have any external CCTV or a ring door bell please let the police know.

"People do forget but remember to keep your doors locked at all times to prevent yourself becoming a victim of this type of crime."

The crime reference number is 44210066192 and you can phone 101 to speak to the police.
