THE case against a man charged in relation to an attack on Caesars Road has been sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Felix Hetherington, 26, of Caesars Road, Newport, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He gave no plea at the first hearing yesterday, which was held at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court.

The case has been adjourned to March 22, at the Isle of Wight Crown Court. Mr Hetherington was granted conditional bail.

Hampshire Constabulary was called to a report of a serious assault, just after 2am on Sunday February 21.

At the time, two people were detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

An injured 49-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition, according to police.

Five people were arrested.

Two men, aged 44 and 41 and two women, aged 41 and 25, were detained on Sunday.

They have been bailed until March 21.
