COASTGUARD and lifeboat teams are currently in Ventnor to deal with an ongoing incident along the seafront.

At just after 2.35pm today (Tuesday), HM Coastguard received a report of a possible dinghy drifting approximately 300 yards from the shoreline at Ventnor.

Sandown and Bembridge lifeboats were sent to investigate along with Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team.

Searches have been carried out but nothing found so far.

Update 10.40pm: Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team has said: "Paged to a 999 report of an upturned dinghy South East of Wheelers Bay, Ventnor, drifting eastwards.

"Search carried out alongside @sandownlifeboat and @BembridgeRNLI with nothing untoward found. False alarm with good intent."
