A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, after an incident in Caesars Road, Newport on Sunday.

Hampshire Constabulary was called to a report of a serious assault, just after 2am on Sunday February 21.

At the time, two people were detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

An injured 49-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition, according to police.

Five people were arrested.

Felix Hetherington, 26, of Caesars Road, Newport has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Southampton Magistrates Court this morning (February 23).

Two men, aged 44 and 41 and two women, aged 41 and 25, were detained on Sunday.

They have all been bailed until March 21.
