THIS week brought the news that yet another Newport restaurant is now permanently closed — Prezzo.

The announcement means another hole in the beleaguered high street, leaving the prominent former post office building empty once more.

Prezzo is no more, and it was only a few months ago that Pizza Express announced it would be closing too.

Everyone loves a pizza, so where in the Island's capital town can one enjoy a slice of Margherita, or, controversially perhaps, a Hawaiian?

All is not lost, as there have been a few new pizza places spring up in recent weeks, and there are still some old favourites you can rely on.

The former Oggie's restaurant has closed and in its place has popped up Newport Fried Chicken, run by the same team.

As the name suggests, the takeaway specialises in chicken, but they also have a line of pizzas.

The owner, Christopher Ogiliev, told us: "This place has had 50-odd years as a chippy and sit-down restaurant so it is sad to change but it is the end of an era and the start of something new."

Find out more here or contact the team on Facebook or on 528533.

It's been something of an institution in Carisbrooke for decades, but if you are looking for ultra traditional Italian fare, here's the place.

The restaurant is currently closed and not offering takeaway, but as soon as it reopens, it will be worth booking in to try the Luca Special, Giovanni, or Parmense.

The idea is to choose your basic woodfired base, sauce and cheese, then customise your pizza by adding your choice of toppings.
