They joined Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team following a call-out by a member of the public, at around 3.30pm.

The Coastguard team said: "Paged to a report of ordnance on the beach at Shanklin.

"Pictures sent to Naval Bomb Disposal. Cordon put in place.
