County Press reader Wilbury Byron sent us these atmospheric pictures of the Royal Navy's new flagship, the £3.2 billion HMS Queen Elizabeth off Shanklin last night (Thurssday).

The aircraft carrier has recently come into service and will carry 24 F35B fighter aircraft and a number of Merlin helicopters.

It is due to head to the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean before going to the South China Sea in a show of strength with the USA and Japan, as China lays claim to disputed islands in the region.

The Queen Elizabeth is to head the UK's new joint carrier strike force and will be accompanied by Type 45 destroyers, Type 23 frigates and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels.
