Cllr Dave Stewart pontificates in his column, (CP 12-02-21), about, “wanting to focus on how people are coping with the impact of Covid-19 and what the Council is planning to do to support them”.

Yet there followed no meaningful detail about what the council is planning to do to support many Islanders who are struggling with the repercussions of Covid-19, nor indeed, what it has done.

We know it intends raising council tax by five per cent, along with dropping support for many of the poorest families on our Island.

In the very early stages of the pandemic we know it spent thousands painting two-metre spaced white dots all over the Island.

Other than that, what has our council actually done to support the many Islanders who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in dire straits?

It has been largely individuals in our community who have banded together to support those in desperate need, with endeavours such as running food banks and caring for vulnerable neighbours etc.

It takes a crisis to see the true calibre of our politicians.

Where is Bob Seely, has anyone seen him?

I hope IW Council executives enjoy their pay rise care of many struggling IW Council Tax payers.

And then, in stark contrast, there are those who quietly and unassumingly provided 250 free meals out of their own pocket for our most needy children on the Island.

A year on into this pandemic Cllr Stewart would like us to wait while the council ‘develops their approach’. Words absolutely fail me.

Come our council election in May please vote, and think very carefully where you place your X.
