THE inaugural Diamond Races has been postponed to 2022 — due to Covid.

Organisers had been hopeful the event would go ahead as planned in October this year, but Covid has 'wrought havoc' organiser Paul Sandford confirmed to the County Press today.

While no date has been set for 2022, he confirmed the event will not now take place this year.

It follows the news that the Isle of Man TT has also been postponed.

Diamond Races, a time-trial event, was hopeful of a crowd of between 25,000 to 45,000 which could provide the Island with a £12 million cash boost.

The 200mph race was announced in July 2020.

It got backing from the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce but not all the parish councils were enthusiastic.
