ISLE of Wight mums have banded together to give St Mary's Hospital staff a treat this Valentine's Day.

Kate Holland of the Isle of Wight Mums Facebook page launched a fundraiser earlier this month, and her original target of £150 was smashed within two weeks.

The sum means Love Hearts sweets sourced by Lisa Dodd of Dodd's Delights can now be distributed to all 4,200 staff members at the hospital, as well as staff at Mountbatten.

"We have more than 1,700 members in the Facebook group now, and we decided we wanted to do something for the staff at St Mary's," said Kate.

"It was quite tricky with lockdown — during Christmas we had drop-off point all over the Island for Women's Refuge.

"We set up a gofundme page this time and totally smashed our target. We are so overwhelmed by our wonderful Island's generosity.

"The goal was to cover all the staff working on Valentine's Day, but we've now managed to cover all the staff at the hospital, as well as those at the hospice.

"We still have some surplus money, and donations are still coming in, so we're hoping to give a little extra to those staff working on Valentines Day.

"We have to deliver them all by Wednesday because of the 72-hour quarantine.

"When I set up the group a couple of years ago, the whole idea was to bring the Island's mums together and start helping our community.

"Us mums are a force to be reckoned with, and we're looking at doing something again for Easter."
