With Covid-19 casting a shadow of uncertainty over the future of events on the Isle of Wight for 2021, what are the current plans?

We take a look at the festivals, events and regattas currently slated to happen in 2021 and what organisers are saying.

It's all subject to change, of course, but here's how things stand for now.

Usually May

Wolverton Folk and Blues Fair

Isle of Wight County Press:

Its lineup has yet to be announced, after the 2020 Fair was cancelled.

At the time, organisers Tim and Dave Hollis posted a statement to say: "Take care everyone, stay safe, and we will be back in 2021!!"

Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges, The Shackleton Trio and The Papa George Band were all lined up to play last year, alongside a host of Isle of Wight bands.

The Fair is held in the grounds of the stately and beautiful Wolverton Manor, in Shorwell.

June

Isle of Wight Festival
June 17-20

Isle of Wight County Press:

Headline acts Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi, Duran Duran and Snow Patrol are booked to play in 2021, after they were unable to rock the Seaclose Park stage in 2020.

A host of other names, including Jess Glynne and Kaiser Chiefs are also on the bill.

In a statement released after the cancellation of Glastonbury Festival, organisers said they are still working away behind the scenes.

July

Rhythmtree Festival
July 9-11

Isle of Wight County Press:

The Wailers, The Skatalites, The Fatback Band, Badly Drawn Boy are all due to play in Calbourne, at Rhythmtree Festival.

The eclectic fusion festival is held at Three Gates Farm, Shalfleet.

It had to be postponed in 2020.

Cowes Week
July 31 to August 7

The sailing regatta has an established reputation for hosting music during its week of on-shore events and activities.

Organisers have already announced that Cowes Week Limited is working with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to take part in the 5G Test and Create project. HD 360° cameras will be fitted to 50 boats, beaming back real-time, high-definition pictures to Cowes Live TV and there will be a VR lounge on Cowes Parade.

Ventnor Fringe Festival
July 23 to August 1

Ventnor Fringe Festival brings together shows and performances at venues across the town.

Chale Show
July 31 to August 1

The Chale Show is a popular annual event that draws the crowds. It is schedule for July 31, after being postponed in 2020.

Jack Up The Summer Retro Festival
August 6-8

Isle of Wight County Press:

Heaven 17, Heather Small will head up the names at thie popular Jack Up event on the outskirts of Newport.

It was forced to postpone in 2020 and organisers have issued a statement to say they remain 'optimistic and pragmatic'.

In a normal year, thousands dress the part and gather for a nostalgic party.

Garlic Festival
August 21-22

The 2020 Garlic Festival was postponed "with much regret and sadness". In a statement at the time, organisers said: "We would like to thank all of you for your continued love and support and look forward to seeing you in August 2021. Please keep safe and look after yourselves!"

Rod Stewart's guitarist (and co-host of the Stars, Cars, Guitars podcast) Jim Cregan and Motown's Roy G Hemmings played in 2019.

There's no word yet on who'll take to the stage if the festival returns this year.

Victorious Festival
August 27-29

Scores of Islanders head across the Solent to Southsea for Victorious Festival.

It has yet to announce a line-up after its 2020 event was called off.

In 2020, Chic and Nile Rodgers, Royal Blood and The Streets were due to play.

It's not known if the plan is to bring them back, should the festival go ahead this year.
