New Isle of Wight political group Our Island is behind a web-based talk by the founder of a movement called Flatpack Democracy.

It will take place online, on Monday January 25 - led by founder of the movement, Peter Macfadyen.

The concept is a community-minded approach to democracy - moving away from party politics.

Our Island says Peter’s presentation will examine how his ideas could transform the way the Isle of Wight Council works.

Anyone with an interest can get involved, alongside those considering standing as candidates in May's local election.

Peter Macfadyen said: “What follows Covid-19 will not be ‘back to normal’.

"It is even more essential that local councils are ambitious, effective, and working with their communities, not just for them.”

Former leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Our Island's Jonathan Bacon said: "Reading the Flatpack Democracy book and listening to Peter Macfadyen was the inspiration for the Our Island movement, which aims to act as the conduit to bring these ideas to the Isle of Wight.

"We are very pleased that Peter is able to deliver this session and support what we are trying to do.

"It promises to be an interesting and inspiring evening."
