THE Royal Navy bomb disposal team has been called to the Isle of Wight today (Sunday) after potentially explosive items were found on a beach.
The Portsmouth-based team was initially called about the suspected ordnance, found at Forelands Beach, Bembridge, in the early hours of the morning, and upon arrival found a second item, removing both from the area.
A spokesperson for the UK Coastguard said: "The Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team arrived at the beach shortly after 8am for a rendevous with authorities regarding potentially explosive items.
"Upon inspection, the first item was found not to be ordinance, and a second item was discovered which was subsequently removed from the area.
"The teams left the scene at around 9.30am."
