The number of daily Covid-19 cases is continuing to rise, with a further 84 positive cases recorded today, according to Public Health England.

January has seen a shocking rise in the number of Islanders with coronavirus — a new variant is being blamed.

Today's cases takes January's total recorded to 2,723 this month alone.

Yesterday (Monday), 247 cases were added. Sunday saw 319 cases added to the Island's tally, with 279 on Saturday and 280 on Friday.

The Isle of Wight's cumulative total since the start of the pandemic is now 4,402 — of which more than half have been recorded on the Isle of Wight this month.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 for the Island, though five days behind, is now 1,119.4. This represents a slight drop, from yesterday's rate of 1,130.

The highest daily increase since records began was on Sunday January 3 — when 459 new cases were added.

The total number of people who have died with Covid on the Isle of Wight is 125.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust has revealed that the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine has now rolled out here, with an 86-year-old woman from Newport among the first to receive it over the weekend.
