WITH concerns for the safety of its staff and customers, W. Hurst and Son is closing its doors for the latest lockdown period.

The stalwart of the Island's High Street had been classed as essential during the lockdown and as a hardware store, it is permitted to open.

But all the stores will close — in Newport, Ryde, Shanklin, Ventnor, Cowes and Freshwater.

There will be Click and Collect from the Newport store, plus deliveries and online orders are still going ahead.

The store said: "With new restrictions now in place, regrettably we have decided to close all stores from 5.15pm (Tuesday) until further notice.

"We will continue to run a click and collect service from our Newport branch (car park) along with online orders and Island deliveries.

"You can place your order either online at www.hurst-iw.co.uk or on 01983 523636 and we will be happy to assist you.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but our main concern is the safety of our staff and customers during this difficult time.

"Please note the click and collect service and Island delivery service will only be available Monday to Friday. We would appreciate your patience during this time as some delays may occur."

The move comes as the Island experiences its highest Covid levels since the pandemic began.
