THE latest government update shows fewer positive Covid cases have been recorded on the Isle of Wight today (Tuesday) than at any other time this month.

A total of 55 new cases have been recorded today following 282 yesterday and a record 459 on Sunday.

Today's figure takes the Island's cumulative total to 2,783 since the pandemic began and 1,104 in January alone.

The rate per 100,000 people on the Isle of Wight is now 687.7, a marked increase from yesterday's 592.5, but that data is five days behind. It puts us above average in the UK, and rising.

St Mary's Hospital is urging people to follow the guidelines and stay at home, while it looks after Covid patients.

The update comes after the Government announced a third lockdown and new Tier Five restrictions last night.
