If we are to lose the Co-op Store in the centre of Newport, I would like to propose that immediate steps are taken by the IW Council and town centres grant funding to bring this building into community use as a traditional market.

This site has everything needed to achieve this: brilliantly sited in the town centre; plenty of room for stalls; out of the weather; entrances from two town centre streets and a delivery area.

Whoever has the clout in County Hall, I assume, either in or next to the leader, Cllr Dave's office, has to move heaven and earth to achieve this outcome to start bringing back life to this dying town centre.

It's over to you to score this goal and bring us all some much needed 'good news' to kick start 2021.

And to give a flying start to the new market, the town-centre-renewal fund could give free stall rents for the whole of its first year.
