ISLE of Wight MP, Bob Seely, has issued a statement regarding the reopening of schools on the Island.

Mr Seely said: “We fully support the decision for primary schools to reopen on January 4, and for the phased return of secondary schools over the following two weeks.

"This phasing will allow secondary schools the time to put in place arrangements for the Covid testing that the Government announced before Christmas — this in itself is a very positive step forward.

“The education of our young people is vital, and while some may have benefited from remote virtual learning, the classroom is the best place for learning and for their mental health.

“We would like to personally thank every member of school staff for the brilliant work they have done, and continue to do, in adapting to Covid requirements, always focusing on what is right for the young people of the Island.”
