THE Isle of Wight has seen its highest daily increase in positive Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic today (Thursday), according to figures published by Public Health England.

A further 55 cases have been recorded today, taking the cumulative total to 1,230 since the start of the pandemic.

The previous record daily increase — 36 — had been recorded on Sunday, December 20.

Yesterday, 22 positive cases had been recorded and 21 were recorded on Tuesday.

These are all cases of people registered on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight's infection rate per 100,000 is now 103 ­— a notable increase on yesterday's figure of 83.2.

At one point, the Isle of Wight's rolling average rate had been the lowest in England.

Now, South Hams has registered a lower rate per 100,000.

Yesterday, it was announced the Isle of Wight would enter Tier Three from Boxing Day.
