With the Isle of Wight moving from Tier One to Tier Three, here is the Isle of Wight County Press's round up of the new rules, which will be in place from Boxing Day.

Meeting up

Islanders cannot meet socially, indoors or outdoors, with anybody we do not live with, or have have a support bubble with(exemptions apply).

Hospitality settings, including bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, and social clubs must close except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services (some exemptions, including school canteens).

Accommodation such as hotels, B&Bs, campsites, holiday lets and guest houses must close (some exemptions).

Entertainment including bingo, cinemas, indoor play centres, zoos, museums, snooker halls must close.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Outdoor tourism and entertainment venues can stay open. Personal care, hairdressers and barbers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, nail salons, spas can also remain open.

Community centres and halls, and libraries can also still welcome customers. 

There are exceptions where we can continue to gather indoors, or in private gardens (following the rule of six); or in groups larger than 6, in outdoor public places.

These are:

  • As part of a single household, or support bubble
  • In a childcare bubble
  • For work, volunteering, or charity
  • For childcare, education or training
  • For some supervised activities for children
  • For parent and toddler groups (up to 15 people, under-5s do not count, not in private homes)
  • For children whose parents are separated
  • For contact between birth parents and children in care, and between siblings in care
  • For adoption
  • For support groups (not in private homes)
  • For birth partners
  • To provide emergency help
  • To see someone who is dying
  • Legal obligations
  • To provide care

Weddings/Receptions

Isle of Wight County Press:

A risk assessment must be completed. Weddings are allowed (limited numbers) but receptions are not (some exemptions). A wedding officiant does not count towards the limit.

Funerals

Up to a maximum of 30 people

Sport

Elite sportspeople (and their support teams if necessary, or parents/guardians if they are under 18) can compete and train.

Sport for disabled people is allowed

Moving house is allowed.

A tradesperson can go into a household without breaching the social gathering limit, if they are there for work.
