The rider of an e-scooter has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, say Isle of Wight police.

She was charged and will appear in court.

Hampshire Constabulary said in a post in its Facebook page, "The use of e-scooters whilst intoxicated will not be tolerated."

The force called it "a timely reminder that e-scooters are covered by the 1988 Road Traffic Act," as its annual Christmas drink drive campaign runs from around now, into the New Year.

Last month, the force issued a blunt warning about how e-scooters should be used - listing the rules and regulations for them.

There is a hire scheme rolling out across the Isle of Wight.

Private e-scooters are not eligible to be used on public land.
