WIGHT Marque is encouraging Islanders to shop local this Christmas, for all festive food needs.
Vanessa Langley, project co-ordinator for Wight Marque, said: "As we edge into the festive season surrounded by uncertainty, it is reassuring to know that our desires for a Christmas feast to remember can be easily met by our own local farmers, growers and producers.
"Although the supermarket giants will all be encouraging us to pile into to the standard commercialisation, spare a thought for our independents, who have been massively hit by this year’s restrictions.
"A lot of our local farmers and producers rely heavily on the hospitality trade to thrive and with so many of those businesses devastated by the pandemic they need us, their local customer base, to continue with their support."
She pointed out that during the first wave of Covid-19, it was these local farm shops and delis which worked relentlessly to ensure Islanders were well catered for.
Throngs of customers new and old, filled the farm shops and snapped up the deliveries offered by the local food retail businesses such as Brownrigg’s, Briddlesford, Farmer Jacks, Medina Food Services, IW Meat Co and Farmhouse Fayre.

Vanessa said: "Let’s keep that momentum and passion for local by having an all-Island Christmas. It's the perfect way to celebrate and support the Island we love and bring the very best of Yuletide cheer into our homes."
The Wight Marque is delivered by the Royal IW Agricultural Society and is the sign of truly local produce. To find out more about the Wight Marque and the businesses which hold the accreditation, visit the website www.wightmarque.co.uk or follow on social media.
