THE Isle of Wight has seen another rise in confirmed Covid-19 cases today (Sunday), according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Yesterday (Saturday) saw the number of cases on the Island increase to 913 — a rise of 16.

Today, a futher four recorded cases take the cumulative total to 917.

These are all cases of people registered on the Isle of Wight.

University students not currently on the Island, but still registered to an Island address may affect the total number of cases but officials have said it may only be a small number, and cannot give a figure.

As of last week, more than 400 schoolchildren on the Island were self-isolating, due to positive cases within their bubbles.

To date there have been 46 Covid-19 patient deaths at St Mary's Hospital, in Newport, 45 in care homes, three in the community and one in a hospice.

Across the UK the number of cases has passed 1.5 million today, with 18,662 new positive cases today taking the total to 1,512,045.

Meanwhile, 398 Covid related deaths across the UK take the total to 55,024.
