POLICE officers responding to a 999 call were injured in a collision with another vehicle on Coppins Bridge in Newport.

The collision, involving a police car and a Volkswagen Passat, happened at 3.36pm yesterday (Friday).

Two police officers, responding to an emergency, were injured and taken by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital, Newport.

Both officers have since been discharged after being assessed by doctors.

The driver of the Passat was uninjured.

Inquiries into the incident continue, a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said.
