Waterstones in Newport has donated hundreds of books to schools across the Isle of Wight.

The books had been used in a World Book Day event at the start of March.

Island based Richard Simpson, who runs a book website, was contacted by store manager Jonathan Greenwood and asked to distribute the books.

Richard said: "I have been involved in sharing a generous donation of books from Waterstones, Newport between several schools on the Isle of Wight.

"The books were all collected and sorted at Summerfields Primary School in Newport and shared between Summerfields, Medina College, Lanesend Primary and Gurnard Primary schools.

"It was an incredibly generous donation from Jonathan, and the children will love these wonderful, up-to-date and interesting books."

In total, almost 600 books were shared with schools and given out to students to help promote a love of books and reading.
