I would to comment on a letter printed in last Friday's CP (13/11/20) written by Kelly Daniel from Freshwater.

My wife and I came to the Island in 1967 and I can trace my family on the Island from 1600 so I consider myself an Islander but more importantly a Britisher.

I agree with a lot of the things she says about the Island but I think she is wrong in others.

If someone from the mainland wants to buy a second home here they have every right to. I would think they pay taxes of all kinds and they are a UK citizen and even if they are not, thank God we live in a free country where they can.

Please don't forget all of us on the Island have a wonderful place to live but we also live in a wonderful country.

We are all part of England and so part of the UNITED Kingdom.

Ms Daniel takes offence of people sipping cocktails in London and then coming to the Island for weekends.

We all live in a free country and just perhaps, those same people in London lost fathers, mothers or grandparents in the two world wars defending our country — so defending our Island.
