ROMI the dog has successfully undergone an operation — thanks to supporters of the Island charity Friends of the Animals.

She had been in constant pain, but is now on the mend.

As previously reported, Romi ruptured the cruciate ligament in her leg, which resulted in five months of considerable suffering and constant hobbling, as she was unable to put the leg to the floor.

Her owner was unable to finance the operation but Friends of the Animals stepped in and asked supporters to donate. A spokesperson said: "Great things can happen when motivated people pull together — and pull together you certainly did.

"I am delighted to say that with our supporters help (including Gift Aid) the target of £3,000 was reached in a week.

Sophia, Romi's owner, said after the operation: "I would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who helped by donating towards Romi’s operation.

"You probably don’t realise how much this means. You haven’t just helped Romi, you have helped our family too.

"I don’t know what I would have done without Friends of the Animals, they truly are an amazing charity.

"Romi’s operation went well and her leg is getting a little stronger every day. We all want her back to being a happy, bouncy dog. Thank you."
