The Isle of Wight's troubled floating bridge is again undergoing work tonight, but could be back in service tomorrow.

The update follows further technical issues with the vessel.

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: “The defective ram will be replaced later this evening by the shipbuilders.

"They will then test the operation of the new unit and examine the failed unit to understand the cause.

“Assuming the works progress as planned and the test is successful, the vessel will return to service tomorrow morning at 5am.”

A foot passenger launch began operating in July, with a second added to peak time crossings at the start of September, when children returned to school.
