Apparently Covid job losses are leading a cross section of MPs to call for trials of universal basic income.

Something, I dare say, is essential for many families who, through no fault of their own, find their circumstances have radically changed.

Providing everyone who finds themselves in such desperate straits with enough money to properly house and feed themselves is surely a minimum level of support any civilised society and government needs to offer its citizens.

Here on the Island it’s reported we have one of the worst levels of child poverty, which is a huge indictment on those with statutory responsibility for supporting vulnerable children.

We can not allow such a blight on our next generation to worsen because of political dogma.
