COASTGUARD and police have been called to reports of a vulnerable person in Newport this evening (Thursday).
Shortly after 5pm, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was called to assist police with the search and is currently on site.
The search is taking place at the River Medina, with the incident ongoing.
UPDATE 7.11pm:
The vulnerable person is now confirmed as safe and well at home.
A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "At just after 5pm this evening, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to a report of an incident on a pontoon in the River Medina at Newport.
"Upon arrival, no coastguard action was required and the incident was closed, with the team stood down."
