UPDATE 10.30pm:

The fire is believed to have begun in the separate laundry room, but concern over smoke in the main hotel led to the entire building being evacuated.

Fire crews said that the type of room, coupled with the age of the building, means it's likely asbestos cladding was used.

With the fire extinguished, analysts have been called to check for asbestos exposure in the building.

Hotel management are working with the IW Council to rehome the Holliers guests for the night.

Residents of a house at the back of the hotel that was evacuated are also not being allowed back home tonight and have gone to stay with friends.
