THE man charged with raping a young girl at Fort Victoria Country Park has pleaded guilty and faces the prospect of life imprisonment.

At the Isle of Wight Crown Court,  Recorder Simon Levene ordered a report on Medway to determine whether he poses a danger to society.

Graham Medway, 62, of no fixed address, is charged with rape of a child under the age of 13 at the park near Yarmouth.

Medway was remanded in custody to reappear for sentencing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on January 8, 2021.

The judge also ordered Medway to be made subject to a sexual offences prevention order and to sign the sexual offenders' register.

It comes following an investigation into a serious sexual offence at the Yarmouth beauty spot.

On the afternoon of Monday, August 31, a child was seriously sexually assaulted in woodland in Fort Victoria Country Park in Yarmouth.

How the County Press reported the incident.

In a statement released today (Monday), Hampshire Constabulary confirmed Medway did not know the young girl.

After a previous hearing in Southampton, a police spokesperson said: "We appreciate that this case has been of understandable concern to the local community, however, we ask you not to speculate on the circumstances, as this can have an impact on proceedings later down the line when evidence is presented to a jury.
